Gwinnett County has several libraries to choose from. Gwinnett County Public Library offers hardbound books
to e-books. Job seekers can take their own computer to access the internet or use one of the library’s.  There
are quiet study areas, DVD rentals, and a variety of events. Teens can share on the teen blog or research
databases for practice tests. Of course story time for kids and the popular Doggie Tales. Doggie Tales is for
kids 5 -10 to practice their reading skills to a trained therapy dog. Plus the Gwinnett Public Library has some
interesting perks. You can get a free one week pass to some museums and Georgia State Parks, free
admission to Zoo Atlanta, and a kit to measure energy consumption.

Gwinnett County History
Button Gwinnett is who the county was named after. He was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Gwinnett
Country was once home to Creek and Cherokee Indians. 1818 Gwinnett County was established in 1818. Rh Allen Tannery was
considered the first large industry in Gwinnett County. Buford Dam was built in 1950 bringing hydroelectric power. The 1970’s
brought Gwinnett County water and sewer lines. It was one of the fastest growing counties in 1986, 1987, and 1988. In 2010 the
population of Gwinnett County according to the census bureau was 805,321 people. The land area is 430.38 square miles.

Gwinnett County Public Schools boasts the status of being the largest in Georgia. They take part in the Farm to School program and
